It features exhibitions on terrestrial and underwater archaeology. This museum traces <strong>the mysterious history of the Man in the Iron Mask<\/strong> and displays various artifacts discovered in the surrounding area.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t miss <strong>the France and Mediterranean Underwater Ecomuseum<\/strong> either, which is free to visit\u2014but <strong>only underwater<\/strong>. It features six monumental statues depicting human faces that have been submerged a few meters from the shore.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sainte-Marguerite Island also features 22 km of <strong>marked trails<\/strong> that you can explore at your own pace, offering splendid views. Sainte-Marguerite is not only a site of <strong>historical heritage<\/strong> but also a haven of peace and unspoiled nature. Visitors can explore the various trails that wind through the island at their own pace, enjoying breathtaking panoramic views of the sea and the surrounding area. The secluded coves are perfect for those seeking a moment of tranquility away from the hustle and bustle.   <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\">\n<h2 id=\"l-ile-saint-honorat\">Saint-Honorat Island  <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Just a stone&#8217;s throw away, <strong>Saint-Honorat Island<\/strong> is smaller but just as charming. Known for its <strong>tranquility<\/strong> and <strong>spirituality<\/strong>, the island attracts many retreat-goers every year.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>fortified monastery of L\u00e9rins<\/strong>, built in 1073 by Abbot Aldebert, is a must-see. This historic monument, which has withstood numerous attacks, features several <strong>cloisters<\/strong> and seven <strong>chapels<\/strong> from various periods.<strong>The Abbey of L\u00e9rins<\/strong> is also worth a visit to explore its architecture and history.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the island\u2019s attractions, the <strong>cannonball furnaces<\/strong> are particularly fascinating. These structures, commissioned by General Bonaparte in 1794, were used to defend the island against enemy ships. Today, they are well-preserved and have been designated <strong>historic monuments<\/strong> since 1908. There are now only about ten of these furnaces left in France.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Discover the <strong>fortified monastery<\/strong> built in 1863 and now home to 21 <strong>Cistercian monks<\/strong>. The island is renowned for its <strong>artisanal products<\/strong>. The Cistercian monks cultivate an 8-hectare vineyard there, producing more than 30,000 bottles of wine annually. These wines, made from six different grape varieties, are renowned for their quality. For <strong>wine lovers<\/strong>, special events called <strong>\u201cVineyards and Wines Days\u201d<\/strong> are held on the first Friday of every month. These events include a tour of the vineyard and a <strong>tasting of the Saint-Pierre and Saint-Honorat vintages<\/strong>, with shuttle transportation included.     <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to wine, the monks produce nearly 9,000 bottles of <strong>liqueurs<\/strong> each year, including renowned varieties such as <strong>La L\u00e9rina<\/strong>. They also oversee the production<strong>of olive oil<\/strong> and lavender<strong>oil<\/strong>, which are used to make scented sachets. According to legend, this mysterious creature made its home on the uninhabited island of L\u00e9rins long before the arrival of Saint-Honorat. A discreet adventurer, L\u00e9ro explored every nook and cranny of the island, while remaining invisible so as not to frighten the rare visitors. The island\u2019s tranquility was disrupted by the arrival of Saint-Honorat, a monk seeking to dedicate his life to God.     <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their encounter was marked by an <strong>epic battle<\/strong>, which gave rise to the islands <strong>of Sainte-Marguerite<\/strong> and <strong>Saint-Honorat<\/strong>. This legend adds to the charm and mystery of the L\u00e9rins Islands, which are now popular destinations for their natural and historical heritage.
