It was this chic location that Grand Duke Michel of Russia chose to establish the first golf course on the Mediterranean coast. The year was 1891, and he was in exile at the time after marrying Pushkin\u2019s granddaughter, whom he had met in Nice.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From this love story emerged a <strong>golf resort<\/strong> that would soon attract the cream of society. The future King Edward VII of England was a member of the first board of directors, and General Chamberlain and Winston Churchill played there\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Grand Duke had chosen an unusual site, crossed by a coastal river and home to a farmhouse.
